The Computers | This Is The Computers

Have you ever wondered what would happen, if you combined the screaming power of AC/DC with the punk rock instincts of The Hives? Well, wonder no more because The Computers have seemingly given us the audio answer to that dream.

This Is The Computers is an album of angry, hard rock. It’s not metal, however, as the guitars sound like more aggressive garage rock riffs, instead. The vocals are screamed, yet this is also not screamo. Instead, this quartet combines a few elements that aren’t usually found together in the same package. Is it a ‘60s-influenced rock band, or is it a metal act with a little more musical taste? Well, the jury is out on that one. However, one of the best tracks on this album is “Music Is Dead.” It begins with a fun drum intro that wouldn’t have sounded out of place on an old Beatles album. Nevertheless, when the guitars kick in, they’re pure punk rock at nearly Ramones speed. The band may be pronouncing music deceased with the song lyric, but the music tells an entirely different story. These sounds are obviously alive and lively.

The Computers are a band you can easily fall in love with because they perform with such unbridled passion. They don’t ever take it easy. They never take it slow. Instead, they take the basic elements of classic rock & roll and stick the genre’s finger in a light socket. “Rhythm Review” may have what sounds like a rockabilly guitar riff, but the song also goes into a section where Led Zeppelin-like power chords are exchanged. All the while, the vocal comes off like Jerry Lee Lewis on the verge of laryngitis. It may not be like anything you’ve ever heard before, even though bits of pieces of it are recognizable.

Don’t let the ‘computer’ name fool you because no machine could ever have created the blood, sweat and tears that pour out of these songs.
