Pigeon Detectives | Shepherds Bush Empire, London

It’s been three years since The Pigeon Detectives last album, but they’re back with their third and a UK headline tour. After spending time in America on new material they’ve re charged their batteries, and it’s time to see what they can do….

Walking onto the stage to a blast of flashing strobe lights and a roaring crowd front man Matt Bowman struts up to the microphone and greets the crowd with ‘Yes London’ before spraying them with water, immediately giving a green light to an assault of beer missiles .
The set kicked off with ‘I’m Not Gonna Take This’ from their second album ‘Emergency’ and continued with a varied set of songs from the new album ‘Up, Guards And At ‘Em’ including the single ‘Done In Secret’ and my favourite ‘Lost’ with its enthrawling guitar riffs.

Bowman had more energy than ever jumping off the drum kit with huge scissor kicks and windmilling the microphone in typical fashion. His on stage antics didn’t stop there pouring water over himself and the crowd throughout the set.

‘Means a lot to get good reaction from new songs, thank you’ he said.

The drum kit then became a dive board with Bowman leaping into the throng where he bobbed over the enthusiastic fans.
This excitement translated to boisterous behaviour and a dangerous mosh pit prompting him to shout ‘a bit naughty out there tonight!’’

Before departing the stage Bowman commented ‘Fuck me London, who would have thought it was a Wednesday night, good for you’.
Leaving the stage after an hour the crowd chanted ‘we want more’ and the band returned for a two song encore with the crowd singing along to ‘I’m not sorry’ as the set came to a close.

The boys have not lost their presence and definitely managed to transfer their energy throughout the venue. A band with a growing repertoire, tight musicians and the perfect front man.
The new album ‘Up, Guards And At ‘Em’ is out now and if you manage to grab Reading or Leeds tickets get down to see them on the main stage. A must see band.
